My parents Christel and Peter were the biggest land-locked beach bums ever. They got me stoked on all things to do with beach life and playing in the water. They introduced me to windsurfing when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I remember how we'd pack up the brown Grand LeMans lead-sled and the whole family would climb in and onto those scorching hot seats. We'd head out to Kelso Reservoir, a tiny body of water ideally nestled between the towering Niagara Escarpment and Highway 401 in Milton, Ontario. It was a hot-spot I tell you!! Winds gusting anywhere between 1-8 knots, blowing in from all sorts of different angles and all at the same time! My parents were all over it around the time of the sports conception... it was pretty cool. My Dad is a pro - he managed to putter around the lake in those gusty-ass winds with my brother John and I clinging to the nose, laughing it up, and even the dog aboard! Pretty amazing summer times! I can't wait to be that kind of hero to my kids...
